I'm not familiar with modpacks prior to 1.2.5 ( /u/Vazkii has mentioned one though!) and I've chosen not to continue into 1.7.10 as there's just too many modpacks to choose just one or two.Necessary cookies are absolutely essential for the website to function properly. There's obviously way more packs out there than this, especially for 1.6.4, but these are the ones that in my opinion really capture the history of modded Minecraft in their respective eras. ![]() Probably the best modpack prior to 1.7.10 for being able to mix and match mods without feeling like you're missing out on the optimal solution for a problem. In my opinion, TPPI did this the best with many careful tweaks to balance a ~180-mod list and unique (for the time) oregen. Next to no magic or tech beyond Tinkers' Construct, this pack is entirely about running around (preferably with friends) killing and looting to your heart's content.ġ.6.4: Test Pack Please Ignore: After 1.4.7 pretty much every kitchen sink pack was trying to recapture the feeling of FTB Ultimate, and throughout 1.5.2 and 1.6.4 there was quite a split between modpacks and launchers with many different approaches to this. Again, small by modern standards, but still a full modpack experience that some people will still play today for the nostalgia.ġ.5.2: Hexxit: The best-loved adventure and exploration pack in Minecraft history. ![]() ![]() Has pretty much every tech mod from 1.4.7 including IC2 + GregTech (back when it was a popular addon and not a controversial total conversion), Thaumcraft + Reliquary for magic, Twilight Forest + Mystcraft for extra dimensions.the list goes on. Often called "Technic" which is the name of the launcher, properly.ġ.4.7: FTB Ultimate: I don't think it's the first, but probably the best-loved kitchen sink pack from this era. While its modlist is tiny by today's standards it still has enough mods to give you a typical tech pack progression and automation feel. 1.2.5: Tekkit: Really the first "big" modpack, from the era where even getting IndustrialCraft and BuildCraft to run together was a superhuman accomplishment. ![]()
